New reeds

Well I have a new project for the hammer. Been having rough idle and getting harder to start, I know whats going on from bad reeds from the past. I'm replacing all 6 cages this time because the last time I installed a new set the rubber coatng looked a little thin, so thin that I knew that next time they would be to thin to resurface. SOOOO!! I found a nice used set on Ebay for $100.00, (thats cheap they are $100.00 each new)and I have a new set of the Hydrotec carbon fibers coming. This will be my second set, the first set has lasted almost 4 years. Boysens last about that long also but the Hydrotec's are worth 200 rpm's or 2 mph faster...I'll take the Hydrotec's... emoticon emoticon ....

Re: New reeds

I had one in the shop that ate a 3/8 inch chip out of a reed and it was amazing the damage it caused.

I AM NOT SAYING THERE SHOULD BE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR STUPIDITY,
BUT, WHY DON'T WE JUST TAKE THE SAFETY LABELS OFF OF EVERYTHING
AND LET THE PROBLEM SOLVE ITSELF?"

Re: New reeds

its a flapper valve assembly used in 2 strokes to only allow flow in one direction in the intake asm. air can get sucked in but cant go out. there are fiber, carbon fiber fiberglass and the dreaded metal ones. all but the metal ones can pass thru the system if they fail and not really cause a problem but them SS ones cause havoc when they grab a port and a piston at the same time. A bad situation fer sure.
it's rare that it happens but it does and a very expensive repair.
