2002 225 Merc EFI question
Hey Charlie, I have a buddy with the 225 efi that has a problem. cranks fine, idles fine but when you hammer the gas its like nothing is there. He has replaced the onboard under cowl fuel filter and the squeeze bulb. This is the 1st time this year the mota has been run, I know he used seafoam as a winterizer.
He did say when he removed the old filter that it looked like thick brown crap inside, do you think his injectors could be cloged?

have him check the rail pressure if fuel is getting there then he probably needs to pull the rail and injectors. did he leave fuel in there all winter with no stabil blue in it

My 2000 200merc efi was/is doing kinda the same thing. Run like a scalded ape on top end and crank and idle fine. Just no low end, very slow to "come alive" when you hit the throttle.
I took it to a shop last year and they tweeked on the Throttle Position sensor and it helped but thats about it. I started running seafoam in it a little stronger and the marine stabil and that also has helped out. Its gotten to where it doesn't do it all the time just some of the time.
The seafoam I put 1 can to each tank (have 2 tanks) that has been the best improvement yet.

Oh Jay just thought of one thing to ask does it get to around 2300 rpm and die or not even that high
if it gets to 2300 and no higher have him check the high speed stator windings. The stator has 2 sets of coils one for low end and one for high speed . if they go she will get to that rpm and take a dump. do a stator voltage and static test anyway just to make sure
just shooting in the dark on that one without actually seeing the motor but it sounds more like a fuel deliver thing

OK!! Heres a little more detail. He says that when the boat breaks over on pad and he nails the gas, its go's dead just like you would turn the key off. It will crank back up with no problem.

ok now its getting interesting
he deff needs to get it on a DDT for that one
it could be and Ill list the stuff to check
loose kill switch wiring grounding out
bad pack or packs
stator my guess
bad pooter
bad motor ground
i would need to know exactly how it shuts down you say its like the key was turned off but is it a slow running to stall or just bam not running
