Re: 2002 225 Merc EFI question

What ever we did, we fixed it. After replacing the fuel filter and lines and still no luck, We cleaned and re-tightened all the grounds on the mota we could find. Took her out for a test run and wow!!! Holeshot was twice as good, even picked up a couple hundred rpm's on top.

NOw thats just awesome....Ole charlie did it again.....but at the same time it prompted me to remind EVERYONE do NOT LEAVE BATTERIES HOOKED UP WHILE STORED.......more problems than you can imagine will surface if you store your boat with the batteris hooked up. If I am going to put the boat down for over 30 days for a nap she gets unhooked. Batteries and whatever is hooked to them go through all sorts of weird stuff from temp changes and barometric pressure changes and it sets up electrolosis and other things that cause corrosion in wires where you cant see it....then it surfaces later down the road and usually when u are 5 miles from the launch and its gettin dark or a storm has settled in.

Re: 2002 225 Merc EFI question

Nice tip about unhooking the batteries, only time it ever happened to me was 5 miles from the ramp, was getting dark and was starting to storm, and was a merc.
Thus why I run only OMC,I not only like getting there but getting back even more.
That first motor a chyrsler was ok ,then came the venerable tower of power,a 90 hp in line six, just as big as a 150hp,mounted on a rite hite 10 in jp and on a 15 ft skeeter, looked like the biggest motor ya ever saw on such a lil boat, basically while only 90 hp it was size wise anyway.Suspect weight wise as well.
Changed the motor out to a 17 ft phantom in my backyard no hoist, pivoted on the skeg and bolted to the other boat, not something id advise.Guess 400 pd ish
Replaced with a johnson 135hp,ran that light boat 59.5mph at 5700-5800rpm,re 3 mazco 23p

Re: 2002 225 Merc EFI question

mule are ya saying because it was a merc thats why ya had a battery problem. Now thats just plain silly right there.
Most if not all battery problems are self induced. Either weren't properly cared for or were cheap ass wallyworld bargain stuff that was way past usefull life.
Another common problem is dirty connections. Throw them dayum wing nuts away and use real hardware. clean the motor grounds clean the battery connections clean clean clean. Some folks like to grease up the connection after its made up to prevent corrosion. All well and good but if you have to take it apart again for some reason get that stupid grease off before ya make up the connection. Grease is NOT a conductor.

Hey Charlie, come back to MO and take a ride in my Phoenix. I'm still not accustom to the sound of a Merc behind me... emoticon
