Nitro Z7 Reviews

Bass anglers on the club level are just as serious about fishing as the top touring pros, but to run the same boats requires an investment most working folks can’t afford. But with the 2010 Z7, Nitro gives those avid weekend warriors everything they need for a whole lot less.

The large forward casting deck is more accessible with a step-up and is optimized for flipping, with a low gunwale clearance to avoid catching low-flying lures. The standard package comes with a 24-volt MotorGuide trolling motor. It has a recessed foot-controller to reduce fatigue as the primary angler sits atop a height-adjustable bike seat.

The co-angler has plenty of room and a comfortable pedestal seat on the aft deck. The tournament-style recirculating livewell holds 34 gallons in the rotomolded tank that has rounded corners and features an electric pumpout for quick drainage.

The compact helm still has room for full instrumentation and comes complete with a large-screen Lowrance fishfinder flush-mounted in the center for easy reading. The entire console can be removed in order to access wiring harnesses that are usually hard to reach.

A lot of bass boats point their bows to the sky when taking off, but thanks to the Z7’s Rapid Plane hull, the bowrise was moderate. Powered by Mercury’s OptiMax 150 we reached plane in 3.4 seconds and accelerated to 30 mph in 7.3 seconds. Top speed was 57 mph and at this velocity it was very stable, although its happiest speed was at 42 mph, which had our direct-injected two-stroke running at 4000 rpm. There was a chop rumpling the surface of Table Rock Lake, MO, but the Z7 glided over it smoothly and in control.

Even though Tracker Marine has a low, no-haggle price of $27,995 with a trailer and Mercury OptiMax 150, it comes with important standard features like a boarding ladder and an onboard charging system, and it even has five cupholders - something many high-priced boats don’t have.
