just take a look at any racing circuit and do a head count black vs all the rest.

Actually thought he had good stats,regardless of mota color,the merc soes have the advantage of more hop ups available and some from teh factory like a torque master or speed master lower.
The 200 xs is an superb motor.
My 200 rude awaking just went crispy critter,no doubt if i will change to a merc as would have cables etc controls etc,not in any hurry will most likly downsize in hp to something like a 140,also weighs 100 pds less.
I have owned mercs in the past a trusty lil 50 hp on a 14 ft thundercraft my first boat then a 45 chrysler,90 inline 6 power of tower,400 lb plus brute on a 15 ft skeeter,10 in of setback lol.
My first big mota was a 135 johnson then a 150 gt,200 xp,200 venom in that order.
And the only motor failure was this one and not due to it but mechanics that cant keep up any hopped motor as dont know what the )(*& they are doing.Nearest one that does is paul nichols 5 hrs away,so next will most likly be stock so as not to confuse them.
I also think the 135 opti is a great mota.
Needless to say I like HO but like mercs not all hp versions.
Kind of like chevy-ford-dodge I like some of each not all of any.
Least of all a verado,other than a cabin cruiser owner who would want such a thirsty critter,that needs to be on a diet.
Maybe its just me,but all mfg make some good motas,and just about all of them make one unsuitable or a lemon for what we do mostly in bb.

you're absolutely right Mule. I just kid with ya but every mfg has their shining star. Even Merc had a few bad attempts equal to the ficht. like the 99 opti and that idiot that designed the verado should be exiled to pakistan. But and a big BUT Merc has had quite a few motors that were pure gold. 150 inline tower of power, 150 XR6, 200 efi, and now the XS and pro XS series. And lets not forget the promax and X series. Just pure raw power right there. Now Yamaha is coming out of the shadows with the SHO. I predict that's the future of Hi performance. Four stroke light weight motors that can spin up. Just wait till them warranties are over and the after market Gurus get to their milling machines. Man we gonna see some ridiculous power numbers coming out of them puppies. I'm betting a 400hp four stroke with 250 decals ain't that far off.
Imagine a dual supercharged, nitrous injected outboard.

Yeah they are losing weight and gaining ponies those 4 strokes,but in national T orgs they also check for hidden assets if a guy did 100 mph in a bb ,doubt if it would fly and he would lose or be a dq.Bass and aba have teamed up to create a 150 circuit,and my reasoning of less hp is to fish that and dont really need to go 80,seldom is ky lake suitable for that.
My motor going toast wasnt due to type or brand due to stuck thermostat,and local mechanics,in a hurry,not being as thorough as needed,and didnt know they needed to be as well.
Tell one do not take carbs off(no air box) as its a special tuning and you dont know how they would tear apart to prove they could,and net result would be crispy critter,so my hot mota experience as long as I live here has ended,doubt if I ever move again as well.
The merc xs would be as close as one could come to that without endangering its life span,and then only taking it to a merc dealership.
Since im omc cabled and controlled makes sense to replace with same,not ficht,older xlow or carbed 90 deg looper.Besides that old stuff is cheap.
And yes that tower pf power was indeed a good mota,many still running.
