What a long strange trip it was

Ok so Saturday morning around 10 I decide to go up to Clear Lake for a few days. Load up the boat jump in the truck and I'm gone. About 4 hours into the drive I stop to use the facilities. As I'm coming back to the boat I see my neighbors cat jump out and run across the parking lot. After about 30 seconds of trying to decide what to do I say screw it I didn't tell the dumb cat to get in my boat and continue. I get up there and checked into the room and stuff by about 7:30. I decide to go out and fish a couple of hours. Starts out slow then about an hour after dark I decide to throw a jointed Jitterbug. I make my first cast with the Jitterbug and bam as soon as it hits the water it gets slammed and goes down. After a couple of seconds of fight I feel another big jerk on the rod and it really starts bending and now line is being pulled off. After a minute or two I get it up to the boat and there are two bass stuck to my bait. I reach down to lip one and notice the second is not stuck to my bait but rather the zara spook syuck to him was foul hooked in the side of the fish that was stuck to my bait. Crazy two bass a 3.5 and a 2 lber and a brand new zara spook. Made a few more casts and gave it up for the night.
Sunday I'm on the water at 5:30 and fished my heart out until 10 before I even got a bite only to have it come off at the boat. Fished the rest of the day and only caught two dinks.
Sunday night I decide I want to try Lake Berryessa which is about an hour and a half or so south so I get up early Monday and drive to Nappa where the Lake is. I'm sitting at a light in Nappa and look over and see someone who looks familar but the light changes before I can figure out why. A couple of miles later I'm at a light again and the same car pulss next to me , this time we're both looking at each otherand roll down our windows at the same time and say where do I know you from. We pull over and get out and it hits me this was Danny Pinkus the older brother of one of my first serious girlfriends. Turns out his whole family is at Lake Berryessa for a reunion. So I go with him say hello and shot the breeze for awhile and offer the take his and Doris's boys out in the boat for awhile. They're thrilled so off we go. To make a long story short one of the kids, the 12 year old, just threw aLoomis rod and shimano stradic reel over board when he got a bite. That kind of shortened the boat trip with the boys and when we get back to the dock the other one steps on three rods getting out of the boat!!! Breaks one and bends the eyes on the other two. This is a 14 yearold not a little kid!!
After bitting holes in my tounge and waiting for one of the adults to at least offer to pay for the damages I take off and go back out to fish. Berryessa has LM and SM bass, trout, kokonee and some other salomoid type fish. I toss a jig down along a submerged tree trunk and it gets whacked. After a long fight I get the fish to the side of the boat and its a 7lb chinock salmon. On a jig.
About 3 I decide to hit the road and spend the night in Stockton and fish in the delta on Tuesday. Tuesday I'm on the water at 5:30 and fish until 4 or so. A few frog fish and a couple on a jig but nothing special.
Wednesday morning I go fish for a couple of hours and decide its time to head my butt home.
On the way back I stop in the same rest area where the cat jumped from my boat but no sign of him. Oh well I'm just going to play dumb about that one.
So by the time I get home I have 1264 miles more on my truck two lost or broken rods and two fishing firsts. Two fish on on bait with a bonus bait and a kokonee on a jig in about 18' of water. All in all a long strange trip.
All i can say is I'm glad to be home.

Wow what a trip you've had! Especially the 2 on a jitterbug that had to be fun.
Did a "grown up" ever offer to pay for the kids misshaps of breaking and losing your rods????
As far as the cat goes... don't worry we wont tell! emoticon

Sounds like you gained a lot of experience on this trip. You should have known that if the kids didn't care about your stuff that the people that raised them wouldn't either. emoticon

Glad you're back. emoticon

That was and interesting trip to say the least. That tells me to not offer to take someones kid out fishing and let them use the good stuff.

I wonder how long it will take that cat to get back home?
