Re: sandblasting a prop

if i thought i wouldnt have to go to court to get him to polish it out i would just to prove a point .... this is the same guy who guarented my friends stratos with a 115 wouldnt throw a blade after he increased the rake and cupped the whole thing ( yes increase rake dont know how.. then he adds cupping.. he claimed to increase rake on his prop by 8 deg and thats not counting the cup) first time out i was with him before the boat got on plane a horable vibration started a blade threw... now i know running wfo it might happn but planning of it took him 2 months in small claims cour to get another prop.. he has cupped my 24 raker it looks like he took the tips and just bent them toward the barrel i gained nothing and lost 310 rpms i talked to him he just said cupping helps some boats hurts others... well i know cupping helps this boat ..... HEY jay i got a quick question for ya with my 4 blade that u worked when do ya rekon it will lose bite... right now im at 2 5/8ths below the pad.. still gaining rpms.. and its still biting hard no roster tail unless loaded heavy and then its not much... reason why im asking jack plate is maxed out so im gona have to move the motor up a set of holes and was wondering if u think i should do it or if im gona lose bite pretty quick if i go up much higher if i keep biting and keep picking up rpms i have no problem getting a low water pickup but right now i have 19 psi i raised it from 3 1/8 and gained 1 psi of pressure. so ya think i shold go up a set of holes..... im thinkin about a hydraulic plate if a can find one cheap..

8 degrees?? I would like to see the sledge hammer he used for that..haha!!!
All I can tell you is keep going up till every thing go's negative then drop back down one notch. The jackplate will be a very good investment.

8 deg was exactly what i was thinking thats around 40 deg of rake total no wonder it threw a blade that quick it had to be already fractured by him... well i guess my search for a used hyd plate has begun or ill just lift the motor a set of holes.... i fabed a hole shot plate out of aluminum im gona see what that does for mr my hole shot from fast idel is around 2 seconds so not sure it can get much better ...

its got a great holeshot and mid range just about will out run all the locals to about 45-50 then they blow by me... from 3.6 mph fast idel its almost exactly 2 seconds i was just looking at a video i took on my phone and timed it to climb out the hole... i guess the feller that worked this one knew what he was doin...

one thing to consider when ya build this hole shot plate. while sitting still that cavity fills with water. all that water needs to drain out quickly or it will actually slow you down. I lost 2 seconds on my hole shot on my first attempt at a solid plate design. Then Paul Nichols came up with a neat solution. I had louvers cut into it facing rearward. Big difference. Ill take pics of it when I get a chance to get out there.
You are getting a 2 second hole shot I doubt any plate design will improve on that. Mine is around 3.5 from a roll to on plane and it snaps your neck back.

Re: sandblasting a prop

my plate has a open face if u look at the pics on topic. 2 inches makes a difference..page 2 ull se what im talking abnout ... great idea though need a patent it.... my hole show wont break ur neck like a lot of fast boats ive been in were they launcch out of the hole... mine is just there it dont realy launch it just skims on plane when i hit the gas if ya know what i mean ... if a hit the gas at a dead stop or real slow idel its alot slower motor just wont instantly spool up like it does when at a fast idel.. though this prop dosent spool up like my rakers it isnt a spike in rpms then a suden decrease when it gets bite it ..... it more of a constant gain thought the hole shot.
