Hey Jay! Mercury problem I think post from Merc forum.
Jay,
This is one for Jay! Background is in the Merc forum but here's the end result. I need some help here.
"YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS!!! I didn't even think of the prop when I pulled from the derby last Sat.
Battery was bad and not holding a charge over 25%. But......
The issue was back pressure from the Trophy prop not the motor! After the mechanic could find nothing wrong with the motor I started thinking again, yeah I know, and the only change I made was the prop so I slapped on the Fury and went to the lake. The boat ran great. I put the Trophy back on and no go. I took the exhaust ring off the Trophy and it blew out. I ran every combination of plugs and ring I could and the Trophy will simply not run the boat well at all."

Sounds like a boat problem to me....HEHEHEHE
No, that is weird. What pitch was it? was it the same as the Trophy Can you get your hands on another Trophy to see if maybe it is a bad prop that you have?
Send me the Trophy, I will see if it works on my Z...hint-hint

I've never seen a prop choke down a mota because of barrel size, what pitch is the Trophy, could be something wrong with the pitch, Trophy's are like a box of cracker jacks, you never know what your gonna get.

Re: Hey Jay! Mercury problem I think post from Merc forum.
LOL!!! Man you're old enough to remember when Cracker Jacks came in a BOX!!
I 26" Jay. It was set up with the exhaust ring and four plugs with two of the plugs drilled about 1/4".
When I pulled the ring it would slowly come up on plane and slowly pick up r's, about 4K I would have to feather the power to keep from blowing out. with the two solid plugs pulled and no ring it would blow out before I could get it up. I put the Fury back on and no problem.
So, I was told by one of my Phoenix reps that he was running a 26" Tempest and it was turning better than the Fury?
Suggestions Jay? Now remembere..... I'm a driver not a mechanic (obvious huh?) kind of like "Days of Thunder" be gentle!

Old enough but not OLD!! haha!!! 44 years young..Lol...
Ok..Trophy's are slower coming out of the hole, at least everyone I've seen, taking the time to tune the PVS will pay off but for you to have to feather the throttle tells me something just ain't right with the prop, only way to tell is to put it on the Pitch guage and check her out.
