Re: Tempest 25
Alright I went to wet a line today by myself and did a little running with the Tempest Plus.I don't know if you remember early in this post I posted that the 25 T did so much better than the plus.
Before I put the reg. T on I had lowered the plate 1/2" to aid in the blow out on breakover with a load. It ran 73 quick with 2 of us and still gaining.I figured it probably had 74-75 in it easily if I could only control the chine.
I ran the 26 TP today at the same setting and she hit 73.4 with just me. The best speed to date is 72.At this plate setting I was at about 3/4 trim and I was saying to myself ,"Self, that's what I call myself when I am talking to myself," anyway, self, this thing is running high and smooth. So I looked at the GPS and I was running 70.2.
So I said "Self" hammer down and see what she's got.72.3.....72.4 that was it. This thing was flying high and running true as a rail. I checked my H2O and was @ 20 psi, so I started to bump the trim up 1 bump at a time just to see what would happen.I made it to 73.4 and right at 100% trim and she started walling to beat hell.I tried to drive it and it snot gonna happen.
The Air temp was 55* and the water had a nice chop so I would say that that is why she ran so good.I know I could get 75+ out of her if I could just figure out how to get her to stop acting STUPID at WOT.
I know that I am gonna catch some smack for saying this but I have yet to find something that I could not drive or operate but this thing is pissin me off. I ran it 4-5 miles at a time playing with it trying to see what I could change about the way I was running but just can not get this thing to cooperate in any way.
Well let me have it.

Re: Tempest 25
Could you jack up on the jack plate some more with the 26TP? With 20 pds of water pressure sounds to me like you could come up a little bit more. Don't know if that would make it more squirly or not.
What RPMS were you when you were running 73.4?
As far as the handling at WOT......dunno not the expert or engineer on here. My Ranger will do the same thing at time's. Kinda weird sometime's it will start and you have to back off and other's you can hammer down as long as you want to and nothing happens.

Re: Tempest 25
SBG , my RPMS were around 5900 or so. I didn't really look because she starts to get violent. I have had the plate up higher but when I get two or more people with the live wells full it blows out on breakover. It is controllable but until I can get timeto plug the top couple hole I am going to run it here so I don't have to worry about watching my H2O at WOT.I was getting close when I got it trimmed out.(12-15 psi)

Re: Tempest 25
Even though a 3 blade will be at least 1 mph faster, I would try a 4 blade (not a Trophy)like a Turbo TXP o/t-4, this will stop the blowout when getting on pad problem and help out the chine walking problem. And heres a another plus, you want have to have a Balance and Blueprint done, they come true enough straight out of the box that this is not needed.
As for the Tempest, the blowout is typical on some boats unless you baby it. The tips can be worked to aid this problem.

Re: Tempest 25
One often overlooked item with a boat it to make sure that it is balanced. Get a level and put it on the front deck while you're in the water and sit in the driver seat. Move stuff around or get some tire balance weights and wrap them good with duct tape and put them on the passenger side it may take a couple 25lb. packages or more to balance it out. It will be a lot easier to drive ounce it is balanced.

Re: Tempest 25
Let me say this about the Tempest. At one point in my life I was crazy about the Tempest on one particular boat I had, once it broke over it was gone, best top speed of any prop I ever ran but, the blow really pissed me off, I put more cup in this prop than the law would alow and still had the blowout problem, it did help but did not cure the problem 100%. I ended up selling the two I had for my boat just for that reason. After a few years of running other brand props, I found myself with a Tempest again just because of the top speed.

Re: Tempest 25
I have only had 1 time that it pissed me off and it was when I had 4 people that added up to around 700# just in people with 30 gal gas and all of my fishing stuff and we were on some 3' wakes and I like to never got it to get out of the hole. Like you said though once it breaks over it is gone.
With that said I have another question. Bullet may be able to answer this better because I know you ain't a black man...LOL that's funny right there..... I know that the PRO XS has 2 limiters. One they call a soft limiter an the actual limiter. I do know that I have seen 5950 RPM and still gain speed but that is when it usually starts the chine. Could I be possibly be hitting the soft limiter and it causeing the chine? I know I have gained 3-4 MPH after seeing 5900.
