Supercharger Overboost

SBG , I broke down in my POS Ford work truck on Friday hauling another POS Ford work truck that was broke down. I mention to you in a phone call before about one of our other trucks going into limp mode. Well , that's what mine did and when I pulled over to shut it down to reset it guess what.....you guessed it , it wouldn't start back. I get it back to the shop and when it cooled down it started right back.

Any way I put it on the pooter today and I had a couple codes.

The one that is throwing me and I'm pretty sure that it caused the limp mode is a (Supercharger overboost condition) I wouldn't think the pooter would let the turbo overboost so what would cause this code?High EGT's? My H2O and trans temps were normal.I was grossing close to 30,000# and was pulling about a 6-7% grade. I had already run around 60 miles with this load and had pulled many grades that steep.

The truck is stock. emoticon

Ok. Heres what we got. I need the actual number for the supercharger overboost,(the code #) that would help just a bit.

I did find out that what your saying is common to trucks that idle alot. What it is is the vains in the turbo will stick due to carbon build up. This is servicable rather than puttin on a new turbo. You can take the turbo off the motor and disassymble it, carefully and mark the housing so that you can line it up latter. Take the center band off and you should be able to get it apart and see the veins. The veins will probably have carbon built up on them thus not allowing them to move. The 6.0 has a variable turbo which is where the veins come from, and instead of having 1 set pressure on the turbo it is variable pressure. The veins sticking will cause the computer to make it go into limp mode to save the motor.

Another thing is the Catalytic converter may be stoping up. Thus not allowing the exhaust to escape fast enough, causing a backpressure.

Either one would cause the truck to go into a limp mode.

Tommarrow I'll ask a friend of mine that is a 6.0Liter guru about it. I'll see what he says. emoticon

I will see if I can pull the history today. It won't be a Ford code, it will be a P code.

The other code was (Injector control pressure too low - engine cranking)

I know that is a high pressure oil code but I have to figure out how to do an air test to find out where the bad 0-ring is. I'm thinking about just undecking the whole top end and replaceing every o-ring I can find. I know that there is a valve right in the front under the intake that they are claiming is also causing a no start condition.

You mentioned back pressure. I do know that the 6.0 has a backpressure sensor. If it got high seems like I would have gotten another code for that. emoticon

You don't need to pull the whole topend of the motor apart and replace ALL the o-rings. The orings that are probably bad are under the valve covers. Ones in the front (which is the shorter one) the other is in the back which goes down into the High pressure oil pump. If you take the valve covers off you will see 2 allen headed bolts, I think they are a 10 or 12 mm heads. Thats the tubes. When I get to work I'll see if I can find a picture and post them for ya. It will look identical on both sides of the motor. Like we talked about before these are most likely whats causing it not to start or spinning over for a while and finally starting. Probably cranks up and starts faster when cold rather than hot. Cold oil is thicker than hot oil. It can't leak out from around the orings as bad when its cold oil.

A P code will work. I believe that they are the same no matter what kind of tester you are using.
Also what year is it?

Man I was too busy today to check on the codes. I was playing crane operator at U.K today. I had to set some sculptures there today. I had to drive the crane up this morning and forgot my hardhat. I funny part was I was on the news today setting the sculptures and it is a big deal at our company to wear our hardhats 100% of the time. Ole Well.HAHAHA!!!What are they going to do ...fire me? Hell I had 2 manlifts and 3 trucks come in broke down today and they still sent me up there to run the crane.

Looks like I will be at the shop all day tomorrow though. I will try and hook it up and get them tomorrow.

By the way it is an 06 F350 super duty crew cab DRW 6.0 weakstoke 2WD. I don't think it matters but it is a cab and chassis.

Not trying to be modest but they knew it would be put on the news and I am the one they call for "critical" lifts. I got some pics that I will post up when I get them on the pooter. They were not heavy, I did the job with a 12 ton boom truck but they were uncalculated loads and were uneven weighted loads so it takes a little experience to rig them for a safe and level pick. The most critical one was a sculpture that weighed 6000# with a 2300# plate on the bottom that had to be removed after it was unloaded off of the truck. It was 18' tall so it came on a flat bed trailer laying down on it's side and had to be uprighted and set on a concrete foundation to be anchored.

The hardest part about the job was the three women argueing over which way it should face. You know , like when you hang a picture for your wife and she says " a little to the right...now alittle left....now up a little....exept it was a 6000# picture.

The funny thing is Nightmare is that they are borrowed so all the money that they paid us to pour the foundations and set them they will pay someone to remove them when they go somewhere else. emoticon
