Re: summer time tactics
My trick is to look for the boats that are catching fish and do what they do.
Works for me.

Re: summer time tactics
Here in SoCal its either splitshot or dropshot 3-4" worms or drag a football jig in 50'. Up in the delta its frogs, flipping and punching with a bunch of topwater thrown into the mix.

Re: summer time tactics
The best thing I've found in the heat of the day is flipping. Either under boat houses or in the grass. Frogs will work also when you have grass. Shakey head with a worm or crawfish imitator along points work also. Another thing that I am going to start using is a Carolina rigged worm on ledges and humps, also on old roadbeds. I've heard alot of people using this technique with some success, I have a tough time with it.
Summertime is a tough time to fish with the heat, middle of the day is really rough on the body and hard to fish it.

Re: summer time tactics
drop shottin the holes in millfoil beds works up here really well. frogs is the preferred method tho. a whole lot more fun. but if ya want quality and can give up a lot of small ones the jig an pig is the tourny winner for sure.
most of our lakes are glacier made lakes mostly rock bottom and just terrible for the C rig unless you like to retie a lot.
now for smallies hard to beat the green pumpkin tube or brush hog.

Re: summer time tactics
Wevel ole buddy I can answer this in one word....BIG CRANKBAITS......
Dont know the waters you are referring to but I find the rivers or the creeks that are mainly in the main parts of the lake and fish them as though you where fishing a point on the shore.....look for the points with cover on them be it depth changes or stumps, rocks or whatever and dig out the crankbaits....ones that reach 15'-20'. Yeah they can be tirruing at times to use but when you normally find one fish you will find several others. I use the DD22's alot an an old bait called a houndog......Fish it in 15lbFloro and use a medium action moderate fast rod....Use a reel that is no faster then a 5.3-1....prferably slower if yu can still find em. By the way 7' rods do the best for me.

Re: summer time tactics
I think he likes a jig bonsai. What do you think? hahahaha.. I'm like all of ya at one point or another. I'll use jig and pigs, crankbaits, and worms. I do like the rattletraps in the creekbeds though. But there's nothing better than to get out there right at daylight, and throw a frog, or a buzzbait. Gotta love the topwater action.
