250 pro making noise

My lower cowling that is right below the main motor cover is rattling at low RPM's. Has antone ever had this noise before? If so, what did you do to fix it.I really don't want to remove it if possible but I really don't see any other way to fix.I have put some caulk in where it is vibrating against a bolt on both sides and seemed to help a little but it is still doing it. I am afraid it is going to rub a hole through it if I don't fix it. emoticon

If it's a design flaw, you might be able to check with a dealer to see if Merc has a fix. It's a possibility. emoticon emoticon

I know there is a few guys on BBC that is having the same thing go on with theirs. It don't have anything to do with performance or reliability, its just the sound. It sounds like a rod knocking.I'm sure it's covered but the thought of having to take it to the dealer and doing without for a week or so over something simple that I can fixjust pees me off. Just wondering if anyone on he has had the same problem. emoticon

dont know what year you have but something to check . look for a rubber cover on the port side towards the rear of the bottom pan just under the latch lever. remove it and there is a screw that holds the pan on way back in there. I believe its a 5/16. it may have loosened up. you will need a 6 inch extension to reach it. I use a 1/4 drive ratchet to get in there a 3/8 drive is just too big to maneuver in that tight spot.
by thge way the pan is a snap to take off it just looks complicated. 5 small bolts
one in front one in back 2 on the port side and that hidden one I just mentioned. The 2 small ones that hold the cable restraint on will have to come off also. whole process takes about 3 minutes.

Thanks Charlie! It's an 08. The rattle is in the front where it splits aroud the engine mount. There are 2 bolts behind the covers that they are tapping against during hole shot and low speed cruise.

That plug in the back that you have to remove to get to the bolt, is it glued in or just a tight fit? emoticon

Just a slotted plug that sits in the hole pull it out dont push it in.

By the way do ya know anybody at Nitro. any good contacts. Spinnerbait lady had the T rub off on the back of her 929 and no one at Nitro will help her get a replacement. they keep saying they dont stock it anymore and to go thru her dealer. but wouldnt her dealer get it from them. Gotta luv Nitro after sale support.

Let me check with my dealer. You need the "T" in the Nitro on the side right? The biggest problem is that Tracker marine is trying to step up their product and they have changed alot of vendors. My dealer is closed on Sun.& Mon. but I will call them this week and see what they can come up with.
