Mercury Racing Division
Last year I remember seeing something about Mercury doing away with their racing division. Whatever happened with that? Or do I just not know what I'm talking about??

Re: Mercury Racing Division
Haven't kept up with it myself, but that's what the word was. Seems like I recall something to the effect that there was still gonna be something to do with saltwater 'cause that area is still exploitable.
Moved Lake X ops to somewhere in FL due to the saltwater thing (closer to the action).
That's my 2 cents worth.

Re: Mercury Racing Division
Heard the same thing a few months ago. I gotta feeling all the 2 strokes are on their way out of the line up. Yammie came out with that 4 stroke hiperf motor can merc be far behind. They need to add to their verado line and make a 4 stroke that don't weigh as much as a volkswagon. Believe it or not I was actually thinking of getting one of them there Yammie's just for giggles. and a bunch of cans of phantom black and merc decals to disguise it

Re: Mercury Racing Division
I've yet to see any boats around here with the Yammie SHO. But I'm sure it wont be long. Merc. has got to do something because that is all you here about on T.V. and the Magazines. I'm sure they got something up their sleeve's or they would be looking for something else to be doing besides building outboards.
Bullet I can't believe you would even say such a thing. Coming from you thats just about blasphemy.

Re: Mercury Racing Division
I know it hurt to say it. Almost like wanting a Nitro. Oh God did I say that out loud.
David Ya gotta get a ride in a rig with one of them SHO's it's pretty impressive. But too soon to tell how reliable they are. Early reports are favorable tho. A guy had one on a Skeeter last week, good hole shot and pretty quick. If ya still want the high 80's to 90's tho ya need to stick with the Mercs but Once the after market guru's get to playing with it
who knows....

Re: Mercury Racing Division
Charlie I am a Merc man probably as much as you but I need you to splain sumthin. You say if you want 80-90 the you would have to stay with Mercury .Why, and be honest?Do they not turn as many RPMs at WOT? I thought their LU has a little taller gear.I think they are lighter. So why wouldn't a 250 SHO push your Bullet as fast as your XS?
I have not tinkered with 2 strokes very much but have dealt with 4 stroke motors quite a bit. (not boat motors)I know in the right hands there is some major HP to get.
Example: My dad use to pull lawn mowers in a club and his tractor had a 12 hp kohler that he worked a little and naturally aspirated on high octain pump gas he was getting a little over 40 HP and 8000 RPMS and pulled the whole summer without a breakdown. He also told me of a class that builds their own blocks that are getting 400+ HP out of a single cylinder.
For years they couldn't build a 4 stroke light enough but that is history now so it is just a matter of time before we see 500 HP out of one of these SHO's.

Re: Mercury Racing Division
from what I've been told it's an RPM and propping thing for both top end and lower end grunt with them SHO's. I really haven't seen or heard of a 4 stroke that can turn the rpms needed to get you in the 90's but I could be wrong.
I really would like to experiment with one on the Bullet but Im not ready to give up the top end yet.

Re: Mercury Racing Division
Had Stroker with a 250SHO on the back with lightened flywheel and a slightly modified lower unit run 96 and if memory serves me he had his tackle in the boat.
