Yamaha 2.6 head gasket outer cover.
OK!! Who has the answer to this one.
Not sure if some of you guys remember a post I did on a once past site about the outer cover gaskets on my Yamaha developing a hole in it and the results was low water pressure.
Well it looks like its happen again. I have not pulled the cover off but I know what has happen. It's not running hot but the pressure has droped about 8 lb's at w.o.t. and down to about 1 lb at idle, this drives me nuts. Monday I'm gonna order two new gaskets and thermostats.
Come on Charlie..Tell me something...  ...

is the reading pulsing or just a steady low reading. Can ya try a diff guage. but it does sound like a broken O ring or shot impeller

I just pulled the covers and to my suprise the gaskets are fine.
At low rpm it does pulse a little bit. The water pump was just replaced 6 months ago.
I do have another guage I can try.

o ring as in the one on the impeller housing?

yup i've had 2 break over the last coupla years and caused some weird crap the gauge pulsed slightly and pressure dropped like you said but it didnt overheat kinda exactly what you described can't hurt to check it anyway. an hours work just to get it off your head anyway
by the way both were installed by the owners and probably pinched during install

This is one of those Pro Comp Marine guages that came with the boat, I have a good used Teleflex waiting if needed...  ...

What broke the guage or o ring?

Well it's not the o ring, I replaced it for the heck of it. It's not the water pressure guage either. I did notice when I cranked it up on the hose that the pressure came up to 6 lb's and steady at first, then when the thermostats opened it droped down and was pulsing between 1 and 3 pounds.
Could it be the thermostats?
