This is a small plastic dial with an arrow on it pointing to numbers on the outside of dial, so let's picture a clock.    C=CYL (this is written on back, got no idea         what it stands for)  P= pulses bottom side at 6 o'clock there's a 2P and under the 2 is a 4c at 8 o'clock theres a 3p & 6c at 10 there's a 4p8c at 12 there's a 5p and at 3 there's a 6p My setting right now is pointing to 6p which is the highest on the dial, so gonna move it to 4p/8c I notice that last time I shot off engine rpm needle stopped at 1500 rpm's,   here is a breakdown to better understand the tach settings 2p 4c = 2 pulses for 4 cylinder motor 3p & 6c = 3 pulses for 6 cylinder motor 4p 8c = 4 pulses for 8 cylinder 5p = 5 pulses never used that one 6p = 6 pulses for 6 cylinders 6p is where ya want to be at Doug may be right you're tach is messed up or the voltage regulator is screwed up. In the back of the motor there are 2 grey wires. One for each regulator . One will have a wire in it ( the tach lead) the other will be empty or have a black plug in it. Take the lead from the tach lead from one and stick it in the other. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bullet20dc)Mon, 19 Apr 2010 06:31:21 +0000 Re: Mercury 150 xr6 rpm problemhttps://bbassnboatscom.runboard.com/p569,from=rss#post569https://bbassnboatscom.runboard.com/p569,from=rss#post569Try moving it to the 3p/6c(the 8 O'clock position). The 4p/8c is for 8 cylinder engines - yours is a 6 cylinder. The tach is set up now for a 6 cylinder delivering 6 pulses. Or really any engine sending 6 pulses per revolution. I would think the current setting is the correct one and the tach is just goin' belly-up!nondisclosed_email@example.com (dougw)Sun, 18 Apr 2010 21:45:16 +0000 Re: Mercury 150 xr6 rpm problemhttps://bbassnboatscom.runboard.com/p539,from=rss#post539https://bbassnboatscom.runboard.com/p539,from=rss#post539Ok here's what I found: I try to describe it the best I can. I believe the switch should be on position 4 if it has one. 12 pole ... what does it read at idle.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bullet20dc)Sun, 18 Apr 2010 06:20:40 +0000 Mercury 150 xr6 rpm problemhttps://bbassnboatscom.runboard.com/p438,from=rss#post438https://bbassnboatscom.runboard.com/p438,from=rss#post438I'm running a renegade prop 13 1/2 x 23 4 blades, I notice that running at 5800rpm motor sounds as if it is running at mid range rpm, so I kept pushing throttle to see what kind of rpm I would spin at WOT and to my surprise it goes all the way up to 6600rpm!!!!. Now, I didn't let it stay there long to get MPH at 6600 cause I didn't want to brake anything, but at 5800 is doing 50 mph, but like I said you can tell motor is just somewhere at mid range. (can tell by noise) I remember that when I had the evinrude I moved a dial behind the tac, not sure if I put it back on merc settings, hope this is the problem, what's the # that dial should be at? believe there's 3 settings. Once I know the rpm's are true I can find out the wot rpm's and fixe or buy new prop for it, hopefully wityh more mph. nondisclosed_email@example.com (egreen024)Sat, 17 Apr 2010 20:50:05 +0000
